Expert guidance, no filing required
What a consultation covers
A consultation is a paid, focused conversation with an AET Tax Specialist. Come with specific questions or a complex situation you need to navigate, and we’ll provide clear, actionable guidance tailored to your specific circumstances.
Common reasons people book a consultation:
- Tax planning for a cross-border move
- Opening or closing a corporation or LLC with cross-border implications
- Expatriation, retirement, or other major life changes with tax consequences
- Moving money between countries
- Selling property in one country while living in another
- Cross-border estate planning, gifting, or inheritance
- Cross-border income and tax optimization
If you’re ready to file rather than plan, you don’t need a consultation — you need an intake appointment. See below for how those differ.
Are you a CPA, tax attorney, or accounting firm?
If you need technical support on a client’s cross-border or entity situation, our Professional Tax Partnerships program is built for you — from PFIC computation to Kovel-protected engagements to Canadian cross-border filings.
Not sure if you need a consultation or an intake appointment?
If you’re ready to move forward with filing your U.S. or Canadian return, you don’t need a consultation first, you need an intake appointment. The intake is a 30-minute call with a Tax Specialist who will review your situation, confirm your package, and get your filing started. $50 of the $100 intake fee is credited toward your return.
A consultation is for situations where you have questions to work through before committing to filing, or where you need expert guidance that isn’t connected to preparing a return.
| Intake Appointment | Consultation | |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose | Start your tax filing | Get expert guidance |
| Who it’s for | Ready to file | Have questions first |
| Fee | $100 ($50 credited toward filing) | $250 |
| Next step | Proposal + engagement | No obligation |
Frequently asked questions
You’ll speak directly with an AET Tax Specialist for 30 minutes. Bring your questions, your situation, or a specific scenario you need to think through — we’ll give you a clear, direct assessment. There’s no sales pressure and no obligation to engage further.
It helps to have a general sense of what you want to discuss — your filing situation, a specific question, or a life event with tax implications. You don’t need to bring documents, though having key details on hand (income sources, residency status, entity structure) will help your specialist give you more specific guidance.
Yes — consultations are available to both new and existing clients. If you’re an existing client with a question outside of your current engagement, a consultation is the right path.
If your situation requires more time, additional consultation time is available at the same rate. Your Tax Specialist will let you know if they anticipate needing more than the standard 30-minute session.
Any errors resulting from our preparation or software are corrected at no additional charge — always.
