It’s designed for expats with a relatively simple tax situation — typically first-year filers or those whose financial picture hasn’t changed significantly from the prior year.

The usual suspect

For expats with investments or property

If you own rental properties in the U.S., have capital gains, hold foreign mutual funds, or have foreign financial assets above the reporting threshold, this package is built for you. It’s a common choice for expats who have been abroad for several years and have accumulated investments or property on either side of the border.
Starts at $975
The Developer

For expats with business income or stock compensation

If you receive RSUs or stock options from your employer, run a business or have rental income in a foreign country, or have more complex capital gains situations, this is your package. It’s the most common tier for AET clients — designed for self-employed expats, those with employer equity compensation, and anyone whose financial life crosses multiple jurisdictions in more complex ways.
Starts at $1,325
The Labyrinth

For expats with multiple entities or large portfolios

If you have multiple businesses, rental properties, partnerships, or a large portfolio of foreign mutual funds, this is the package for your situation. It’s designed for high-complexity filers who need time, precision, and deep expertise across multiple tax jurisdictions. If you’re not sure whether this is you, your intake appointment will clarify.
Starts at $2,000

Frequently asked questions

Yes — the U.S. taxes its citizens and permanent residents on worldwide income regardless of where they live. Most U.S. persons living outside the U.S. are required to file something with the IRS each year, even if they owe no tax.

Your intake appointment is specifically designed to answer that question. An AET Tax Specialist will review your situation and confirm exactly what you need before any work begins.

We also handle highly complex situations involving foreign corporations, partnerships, trusts, and entities. See our U.S. Complex & Specialist Returns section above for full details, or book a consultation to discuss your specific situation.

No — Canadian return fees are separate. If you need both U.S. and Canadian returns prepared, we handle both and will quote them together in your proposal.

Any errors resulting from our preparation or software are corrected at no additional charge — always.

If you had more than $10,000 in foreign bank or financial accounts at any point during the year — across all accounts combined — you are required to file an FBAR. This applies regardless of whether you owe any U.S. tax. Most AET clients require FBAR filing.
